Todd Rundgren and Utopia Tape List-Presented [Image] Frank Bubnick 1300 E. 45th Street Cleveland, OH 44114 Mail Box: an874@cleveland.freenet.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Image][Image][Image][Image][Image][Image][Image] Here's version 1.09 - 98 of my collection of live recordings and a whole lot more! As always trades are preferred, but NOT necessary! See the blurb at the end of the list for that. This list IS LONG! If not interested, stop now and save yourself the bother of finding a long lost live gem that you may be looking for.... Try to order in multiples of 90 minutes keeping shows together as listed when possible. Don't be afraid to send e-mail inquiring about content or quality of a certain show - I'll help as much as I can!!! Looking for early 70's Utopia and Oblivion and POV shows - home made tapes welcome. Always, always, always write or e-mail before sending an order. It's not fair to me or to you for trades/sales to happen if terms are not decided up-front. I don't want to be taken advantage of and I don't want you to feel ripped-off if things aren't clear!! A hi-didily-ho to friends and family who find me here. If you'd like, drop an e-mail by clicking here: an874@cleveland.freenet.edu This is what I do when it's cold and snowy here to keep me busy (well, I guess even when it's sunny and warm). I do this for FUN and as a sidebar to my regular life. I get things done as life allows. What I have in my collection is open to all who would like to share it. I do not hold any more value to what I have than magnetic impluses on oxide (which when decoded yields some fabulous live music). Those who feel obliged to be miserly about what they have really don't belong here... Delete any old versions of my list-only version 1.09 - 98 is valid! Foreign orders/trades welcome... If you can avoid it, don't send regular snail mail about requests, etc. I'm much better replying via e-mail if you have questions or requests, etc. I need an address for: Barry Flag of Worcester, MA. Send e-mail if you can help. I now have a reliable method to dub CD's!!! Please e-mail me for details!!!!!!!!!!! an874@cleveland.freenet.edu Enjoy... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Table of Contents * AUDIO QUALITY GUIDE * NEW STUFF (Audio) * NEW STUFF (Video) * IMPROVED QUALITY FROM OLD LISTS * AUDIO o The Seventies o The Eighties o The Nineties * HIGH QUALITY SHOWS ON CD!![Image][Image] * VIDEO * MISCELLANEOUS/INTERVIEW * OUT OF PRINT ALBUMS, ODDS AND END, ETC. * TAPING INFO ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AUDIO QUALITY GUIDE PERFECT-Of the highest quality for the period of time it's from. The Hello People are the backing band during this period. Some really incredible stuff, most of which has been preserved in great audio quality. I have some various Nazz rarities that aren't listed, let me know if you're interested.... 1970 Nazz - Retrospective Foresight. Bootleg LP. Songs: He Was, Some People, Ready I Am, Kicks (Yardbirds song), But I Ain't Got You, Take the Hand, Lemming Song, You Are My Window, Open My Eyes (live), Christopher Columbus, Train Kept a Rollin'. (60 minutes) 7/1/71 Todd R. - Sigma Sound Philadelphia, PA-WMMR's first in-studio production. This is a new version of the whole show. This copy is the whole performance as it was taped and not as it was broadcast (I think there are extra songs in this version). Believe In Me, It Wouldn't..., Broke Down and Busted, The Ballad (Denny and Jean). Includes tunes with the Hello People (Todd on guitar) like Lady on a Terrace, etc. My copy made from 1st generation copy of original reels. Excellent quality (60 minutes). I also have a version of this show which is third generation from the FM broadcast (60 minutes). I also have a version of just the Todd songs (20 minutes). The Todd only tunes from this show are now filler on the 11/8/73 Retrorock CD. Please see the HIGH QUALITY SHOWS ON CD!![Image] page for more info. 1972 Todd R. - Skansen Stockholm, Sweden. Short interview and Live in the studio with Todd solo piano on a Dream Goes On Forever and with a band for a real goofy version of I Saw the Light. Includes '72 WMEX interview and Todd doing the 12 Days of Christmas at the Toys for Tots Benefit brodcast on KFOG in the late '80's. All is Very Good Quality. (90 minutes) This is filler on the 7/31/76 Berkeley CD. Check it out at: HIGH QUALITY SHOWS ON CD!![Image] 5/2/72 Todd R.-Ultrasonic Studios Hempstead, NY-With Hello People. Lots of Hello People tunes (Outside Love, Heat and Blaze, Lady on a Terrace) plus S/A tunes (I Saw the Light, It Wouldn't..., Slut). A self edited Piss Aaron, more. Really entertaining stuff. Includes '72 S/A? interview from WMEX AM in Boston (this interview is filler on the 7/31/76 Berkeley show). Bootleg is titled "Live at Ultrasonic 1974". My copy made from bootleg CD. Excellent quality. (90 minutes) 5/18/72 Todd R. and the Hello People-Live in Boston. From the crowd in what sounds like stereo. The quality is fair, but the songs are really cool. The songs I have: Broke Down and Busted/Piss Aaron/It Wouldn't Have Made.../I Saw the Light/Hello It's Me/The Place (Instrumental)/Lady on the Terrace (Tom Cosgrove vocal)/Georgia Swing/Slut. Lots of chatter from Todd. Fair quality. (30 minutes) IMPROVED QUALITY OF THIS SHOW CAN BE FOUND IN THE CD SECTION! FROM TAPER'S MASTER! Todd R's Utopia/AWATS/Todd Period-'73 shows feature Todd and his tape for the first part of the show and T.R.'s Utopia coming out for the second half. '74 shows feature the band for the whole show and include some real gems in the quality department such as the 4/14/74 Boston, 9/74 St. Louis, and the 10/16/74 Cleveland show. 5/3/73 Todd R's Utopia-CW Post College Long Island, NY. To be reviewed. (90 minutes) 11/8/73 Todd R's Utopia-Fox Theater Atlanta, GA-Retrorock. Broadcast in the early '80's. Portions of this classic show. The show's tag was "putting the past into perspective" so it includes tunes plus what Todd was up to at the time ($2 million video studio, Deface the Music, etc.). Made from transcript LP->DAT->CD. Tunes include Everybody's Going to Heaven/King Kong Reggae, Sons of 1984, Open My Eyes, Black Maria, Don't You Ever Learn (with a slight click from the vinyl), etc. I have upgraded this show to perfect quality. Excellent show. Perfect quality. (45 minutes) This show can now be found at: HIGH QUALITY SHOWS ON CD!![Image] 11/11/73 Todd R's Utopia-Counterpart Studios Cincinnati, OH-WKRQ FM. Classic show from bootleg LP. I Saw the Light, Dream Goes On, Piss Aaron (edited by those fine open minded folks in Cincy-think Maplethorpe/Larry Flynt), Lord Chancellor's, Hello It's Me, Utopia Theme, Black Maria, Hungry for Love. Really cool show. My copy made from transcript LP. Excellent quality. (45 minutes) 11/12/73 Todd R.'s Utopia-The Agora Columbus, Ohio-WNCI FM 98. Sounds like mono to me, although it may be stereo with poor separation. Utopia Theme, Don't You Ever Learn, Ikon Pt. 1, 2, and 3, When the Shit Hits..., #1LCD, Is It My Name, Hungry for Love. Very Good quality. (75 minutes) I also have a 90 minute version of this show from the crowd. My copy made from taper's master. (90 minutes) 11/13/73 Todd R.'s Utopia - Ford Theater-Detroit, MI. "Born to Utopia" Bootleg. Great show from this period. For comparison's sake, if you have this show on bootleg - it rates a Good/Very Good on my scale. There is superior audio quality out there. Long Flowing Robe, I Saw the Light, Wailing Wall, #1 LCD, Izzat My Name, Hungry for Love, more. Good quality. (135 minutes) 11/14/73 Todd R.-Massey Hall - Toronto, Canada. You can hear 'em frying the Canadian bacon and chuggin' the beer in the background of this audience tape... Todd's first Canadian show. This show features Todd for the first 45 minutes on piano, guitar, and lead vocals with a tape playing behind him. The second half of the show he comes out with the Hello People back-up unit so I don't think you can really call them Todd R's Utopia. First half includes; Long Flowing Robe, International Feel, Never, Never Land, I Saw the Light, Lord Chancellor's Nightmare, Piss Aaron, Heavy Metal Kids. Second half includes; Utopia Theme, Ikon, Black Maria, #1 LCD, Is It My Name, more. Very good quality. (90 minutes) 11/17/73 Todd R.'s Utopia - Arie Crown Theater-Chicago, IL. Long Flowing Robe, I Saw the Light, Utopia Theme, Black Maria, Izzat My Name, Hungry for Love. Show includes like 45 minutes of Todd and Tape and 45 minutes of Utopia. Very Good/Great quality. (90 minutes) 1974 Todd - Bearsville White Label Promo EP. Side one is an interview with Todd. He discusses his fans, eating habits on the road, so on. Side two is The Ikon banded into seven parts for radio play. My copy made direct from vinyl to HiFi VHS. Excellent quality. (45 minutes) 3/19/74 Todd R.'s Utopia - Grand Valley Dome-Grand Rapids, MI. Starts with Todd and tape - Never Never Land, Zen Archer, I Saw the Light, Heavy Metal Kids. 2nd half with Utopia - Don't You Ever Learn, Last Ride, #1 LCD, more. Very Good/Great Quality. (120 minutes) 3/24/74 Todd R's Utopia-Akron, OH. Sounds like the original is fairly high quality audience. First half of show is Todd with his tape: International Feel, Never, Never Land, Zen Archer, It Wouldn't, I Saw the Light, Dream Goes On, Lord Chancellor's, Hello It's Me, Piss Aaron, Heavy Metal Kids, and International Feel. He cracks during I Saw the Light that he's singing the hits from K-Tel's Songs of the 70's. Second half of the show is Todd R's Utopia: Utopia Theme, Black Maria, Everybody's Going to Heaven/King Kong Reggae, full version of Ikon, Sons of 1984, more. Very Good Quality. (135 minutes) 4/14/74 Todd R's Utopia - The Orpheum-Boston, MA. Audience tape of prime quality. This one's been equalized and studio processed and it sounds great! (135 minutes) NOW IMPROVED COPY CAN BE FOUND IN CD SECTION!!!!! 5/74 Todd R.'s Utopia - McFarlin Auditorium-Dallas, TX. Audience tape. Low generation. Fine show. This show is from the end of the Todd and tape portion forward. Utopia Theme, Everybody Goes to Heaven/King Kong Reggae, Last Ride, Ikon, Sons of 1984, Open My Eyes, more. My copy is 3rd Generation from the master. Great quality (120 minutes) 5/3/74 Todd R.'s Utopia - The Civic-Santa Monica, CA. Audience tape. This is a Todd w/tape then Utopia show. Usual suspects: Heavy Metal Kids, Piss Aaron, Don't You Ever Learn, King Kong Reggae, Open My Eyes, Ikon, Sons of 1984. Good quality. (150 minutes) 6/22/74 Todd R's Utopia - Central Park-NYC, NY. Audience tape. I've expanded my old tape to include the whole show. First part which is Todd, Hall and Oates, and some other singers doing what Todd usually did during this period with his tape. Tunes include Hello, Sometimes I Don't Know..., Dust in the Wind, I'm So Proud Medley. The second part is the whole band - Everybody Goes to Heaven/King Kong Reggae, Slut, Ikon, Happy Birthday, more. Great quality. (135 minutes) 9/74 Todd R.'s Utopia-Soundboard Recording-St. Louis, MO. Yes, it is from the soundboard. There's some crowd mic, but only at certain times (usually between songs). Born to Synthesize (Todd only WITHOUT any reverb, phase shift, etc.-awesome), Side Walk Cafe, Treatise on Cosmic Fire, Ikon Pt. 1, 2, and 3, We Gotta Get You a Woman, Sons of 1984, Slut, Do Ya, JOV. My copy is real low generation. An absolute all-time favorite. Perfect quality, it'll knock your socks off. My copy is now on CD...2nd Gen master->Mike Adrian's copy made in '76->DAT->CD. (75 minutes) SEE THE CD PAGE FOR MORE INFO ON THIS SHOW. 9/20/74 Todd R.'s Utopia - Memorial Auditorium-Kansas City, MO. Part of this show from the crowd. Last Ride, #1 LCD, Izzat My Name, Ikon. Includes part of an '87 WMMS interview with Todd. Very Good/Great Quality. (90 minutes) 10/16/74 Todd Rundgren's Utopia-Music Hall Cleveland, Ohio. Without question one of the best audience recordings I have ever heard. Clean and clear stereo with very little boominess to it. The recording is a little uneven in spots due to microphone movement, but overall very clear. The crowd is fairly respectful choosing to be mellow during the tunes and going wild at the end. The show however is nothing short of outstanding. You can hear between one of the songs the guys recording the show going "...wow what a great show...". If this show doesn't make you acid heads out there flashback, nothing will. Sounds like you're sitting in the 15th row center. Set list: Utopia Theme, Don't You Ever Learn, Another Life, Dream Goes On Forever, Real Man, Freedom Fighters, Wheel (Cheech and Chong discuss their pot), Good Times Were Better, Sunset Blvd, Last Ride, Bass Ball, #1LCD (cuts at 2:30), Night in New Orleans, Do Ya, Freak Parade, Born to Synthesize/Spark of Life, Slut, CIJTY (I love the version from this era). Great/Excellent Quality. My copies were made direct from the original tapes. Any other tapes out there are sourced from my COPIES! (135 minutes): I have 3 versions of this show, please specify which one you want: 1. The original tapes unaltered. Great/Excellent Quality 2. Re-EQ'ed (well, it's more like re-engineered in a recording studio by John Hanavan) version of the WHOLE show that sounds pretty darn good. Excellent Quality. (135 minutes) 3. A Retro Engineered version from Paul Russo. Paul took my original tapes, coverted them to digital, and utilized various Mac based professional editing software to perfect the sound onto CD. He did a very good job. Presence is excellent and the dynamic range is preserved without the hiss. Excellent/Perfect Quality. F. Bubnick CD. CD RATING: 2.85 (135 minutes - 2 Discs) This show is now offered in the HIGH QUALITY SHOWS ON CD!![Image] section. 10/27/74 Todd R.'s Utopia - Toledo, OH. Whole Show, all TR's Utopia. Roger is with the band at this point. Another Life, Wheel, Freedom Fighters, Freak Parade, Do Ya, Spark of Life, Treatise on Cosmic Fire, Ikon, Sons of 1984, more. Very Good Quality. (135 minutes) Initiation/Another Live Period-This period features a Utopia in flux. The original members were beginning to leave and Roger (Roger's first show was the Cleveland show in 11/74) and Willie join the ranks. Disco Jets was born amidst a (thankfully) quick experiment with disco and Todd threw a band together for a European tour. 1975 Todd - Initiation Interviews. First is from Radio Holland 95.2 FM. The second is from Rock Speak state side. Both are good interviews about Initiation and the Todd solo albums up to that date. Interviews from this period are pretty cool. Todd still seems to answer questions in a pretty direct manner. Cool interviews. Very Good Quality. (45 minutes) 1975 Utopia - Disco Jets. Unreleased Utopia album. This is some weird, wild, wacky stuff! This was recorded and never released. All instrumental aside from those stupid disco spoken word choruses (remember "Do the Hustle"?). Check out the song titles: Disco Jets, Cosmic Convoy (song includes "cosmic" CB chatter, this is priceless), Time Warp, V.H.F., Star Trek (yes, it's a disco version of the Star Trek theme complete with disco high hat cymbals), Pet Rock (sounds like Fahrenheit 451), Space War, Rising Sign, Black Hole, and Spirit of '76 (Todd' s tribute to the Bicentennial-Patriotic songs and a disco beat). This is really weird stuff. It's not even really good disco. Great quality. (45 minutes) 1975 Todd R's Utopia - Portsmouth, OH. My copy made from taper's masters. Very good/Great Quality. (120 minutes) 7/23/75 Todd R.'s Utopia - Central Park-NYC, NY. Audience tape. Very cool set. Star Spangled Banner, Le Feel Internationale, 7 Rays, Freedom Fighters, Another Life, Real Man, Born to Synth, Fair Warning (a little cut-up), Todd Lounge (Dream Goes on Forever/Hello It's Me/I Saw the Light medley with Vegas style banter by Todd), Mister Triscuits, Do Ya, more. Very Good quality. (135 minutes) 8/23/75 Todd R's Utopia - Cape Cod Coliseum-Cape Cod, MA. Audience tape of pretty decent quality. Cool show that was probably a warm-up for the European tour that fall. Shows from this period are pretty rare. National Anthem, Utopia Theme, When the Shit..., La Feel Internationale, Don't You Ever..., 7 Rays, Freedom Fighters, Another Life, Wheel, Real Man, Born to Synth, Death of Rock and Roll, Eastern Intrigue, Initiation. Sounds like it's fairly low generation. Very Good/Great Quality. (90 minutes) IMPROVED QUALITY OF THIS SHOW CAN BE FOUND IN THE CD SECTION, FROM TAPER'S MASTER. 9/10/75 Todd R.'s Utopia-London, England Hammersmith Odeon-Same as "Nimbus Thitherwald", "Open My Eyes", or "More Another Live" bootlegs (which I also have which has a couple extra tunes). BBC re- broadcast of this classic show. Features the stripped down Utopia without Kas. Freedom Fighters, Open My Eyes, more. This show can now be found in the HIGH QUALITY SHOWS ON CD!! [Image] seciton. Go there and check it out! 10/75 Todd R.-Radio Clyde Scotland-Andy Park interview with Todd. Presented on-air with Andy reflecting on the interview, playing exerpts, reflecting, and so on. Interviewer is intelligent and interested in Todd. Todd discusses his sense of humor, integrity or lack thereof in the music business, effect of drugs on his personality and music, difference between solo and Utopia lyrics, how he stole a part of Breathless, use of the major 7th chords, Laura Nyro, Bob Dylan, more. Great quality, some radio static. (45 minutes) 10/7/75 Todd R's Utopia - The Empire-London, England. Audience tape. Utopia Theme, International Feel, Another Life, Wheel, more. Good quality. (45 minutes) 10/12/75 Todd Rundgren's Utopia - Den Haag-Amsterdam, Holland. This one was recorded from the audience on a Uher recorder. Good, clean mono. Line-up includes TR, RP, WW, John Siegler, and Luther Vandross-same line-up as 9/10/75 London/Nimbus show. Similar period as Another Live-Fair Warning, Medley- Dream Goes On Forever/Hello Its Me/I Saw the Light, Last Ride, Drum Solo, Something's Coming, Open My Eyes, Sons of 1984, Born to Synthesize, Do Ya, Bass Ball (John Siegler bass tune), JOV. My copy was made from the master. Very Good/Great quality. (135 minutes) 10/14/75 Utopia-FM - Paris, France. This tape's origin is French FM. Cool set. Born to Synthesize, Death of Rock 'n Roll, Eastern/Initiation, I Saw the Light, Mr. Triscuits, more. Backstage Pass interview from WMMS in '87. Good quality. (45 minutes) 11/13/75 Utopia-Fayetville, AR. From the vault of Gio Bruno comes this classic from the audience. Cool Another Live era show. Another Life, Last Ride, Wheel, Born to Synth, more. My copies made from the taper's master. Very Good Great Quality. (60 mintues) Faithful/RA Period (4 Man Utopia)-The emergence of 4 man Utopia as a unit. As always, some real gems in the 1/8/77, Utopia is Here to Come, and 10/20/77 shows. 7/3/76 Utopia - Central Park-NYC, NY. Live from the crowd. Overture, Sunset Blvd., 7 Rays, Real Man, Something's Coming, Jealousy, Singring, more. These Central Park shows are cool they were scheduled each year with or without a current tour. They're usually pretty ad hoc and feature some odd sets. This show was before Ra came out. Very Good Quality. (135 minutes) 7/8/76 Utopia-Grand Valley Dome, Grand Rapids, MI-Very good audience tape. AWATS tunes plus Roger solo tunes. International Feel, Landmark, The Ikon. Unique show. There's not too many out there from this era and this one is a stand out. Excellent quality. (90 minutes) 7/13/76 Utopia - Mississippi River Fest-Southern Illinois University St. Louis, MO. My copy made from taper's master. Happenings 10 Years Ago (very rare, never heard this one before), Heaven and Hell (another rare one only played on this '76 tour), Communion..., Hiroshima, 7 Rays, more. Very Good/Great Quality. The whole first set ends with "...a new sing along tune..." Love is the Answer. Really an incredible show. Utopia is at an intersection sampling all which it has covered to date. These gems are brought to us by Randy Walters. Seems that Randy took a break from his finals in the Spring of '78 to work on the Fedco recording truck for these shows. His souvenir was these two shows recorded from the board directly to a portable JVC deck onto Maxell UDXL I cassette tape. This isn't the house PA mix, but "...essentially a 'live studio' mix in an environment acoustically isolated from the performance space..." to borrow Randy's own words. All I can say is "WOW!". Your copies will be made from my CD's. My CD's were made from Randy's masters (Randy's Master played back on a $2,000 Yamaha 4 head deck->DAT->CD). Your copies will basically be first gen copies from the masters. You can't beat that. The differences in sound quality between these tapes and the BTTB CDs are pretty minimal. The cool thing is you get the whole picture here and not the cut-up mix from BTTB. These shows are probably in the top 5 shows that I have, period. I don't think I can emphasize enough just how great these shows sound. Incredible in every way. Reckless and Wild: If you heard this, you would know why I used it for my yahoo mail user name. I sent chills right through me. Heaven's Girl: Perfect Kasim song. When I got the LP, this was one of my favs. Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace: A song Thommy and Kasim did at school dances and parties when in junior high. Good quality. (135 minutes) 1/3/97 Todd R. - The Odeon-Cleveland, OH-WNCX 98.5 FM. I recorded this one myself from FM! Your copy will be made from my original which I recorded from my Adcom GTP-450 tuner to my Denon DRW-660 deck via a Signet (pretty good $80) interconnect to Maxell XL-IIS cassettes. Excellent performance. There's some slight overload on Todd's mic for most of the show, but it's way better than an audience recording! Here's the set: short Todd interview, Computer Love (opening music-most of song), Black and White, Hammer in My Heart (starts acoustic, breaks a string, finishes with the electric), I Want You, Cliche, Lysistrata, CD-e Demo, The I, Family Values, CWSBF (starts because the crowd is egging him on, then stops when he can't remember the changes), It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference, Too Far Gone, Compassion, Free Male and 21, There Goes My Inspiration, Story about Todd' new dog, Tables Will Turn (breaks between tape one and two about 3/4 of the way through the song), Woman's World, break, CWSBF (plays the whole thing this time), Dream Goes On Forever, WWE, break, and The Wheel. DAT from the crowd. You've Got To Hide Your Love, I Want You, Bossa Nova I Saw the Light, Compassion,Wheel, Black and White, Love of the Common Man, more. I have two copiesmade from different recorders. Todd also plays on Sons of 1984 with Hiroshi Takano. Good quality. (90 minutes) 8/23/97 Todd - Shanghai Center Theater-Shanghai, China. Todd goes to China as the culmination of this short tour. Typical show for this period. Good quality. (120 minutes) 9/11/97 Todd - The Long Island Brewing Company-Jericho, NY. Mike Adrian steps into the 90's with this fantastic recording. Mike traded in his venerable tcd3/Shure mic analog combination for a Sony TCD-D8 DAT machine and an ECM-909 microphone - we're talking close to $1,000 of recording equipment here. Recording position is the table front and center, seats 1 through 8. This is a great show in front of a small crowd of about 200. The soundis warm and very natural on the acoustic numbers, the best I've heard fromth is tour from the audience. The cu-base stuff is clean and without distortion, all around a very good sounding show. Set includes Hammer, Cliche, It Wouldn't..., Compassion (very nice version), Bossa Nova tunes with Jesse Gress on guitar - I Saw the Light, Never Neverland, Dream Goes On..., and I Want You (very good). The whole show ends with Todd's computer taking a crap at the end of WWE, Todd screaming "you bastard", and finishing the show solo on electric. All and all a fine experience. Very Good Quality. (120 minutes) 11/2/97 Todd - The Belly Up-San Diego, CA. Audience DAT of way above average quality. The solo/acoustic nature of these Bossa Nova With a Twist shows lends itself to audience recording. No loud drums or guitars to screw up the levels. Way cool show: Caravan Instrumental, I Saw the Light, Influenza, CWSBF, It Wouldn't..., Zen Archer, Fidelity, Never Neverland, Love is the Answer, Espresso, The I, Real Man, Lost Horizon, Eastern Intrigue, Can't Stop Running, Hello It's Me, Love of the Common Man, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Born to Synthesize, I'm So Proud, I Want You, and Dream Goes On Forever. Very nice recording and re-working in the studio by John Hanavan. Excellent Quality. (135 minutes) 11/26/97 Todd - Irving Plaza-NYC, NY. Mike Adrian pulls out the Sony TCD-D8 DAT machine and the ECM-909 microphone for the With A Twist tour. The mic position was on the table at the center of the balcony which provides for low crowd noise on same level with the club's speakers. Very nice sounding recording along the same lines as the L.I. Brewing show (9/11) with much less crowd noise and very good dynamics. The best sounding WAT show that I've heard. First set Bossa Nova: Caravan Instrumental, I Saw the Light, Influenza, CWSBF, It Wouldn't..., 2/28/98 Todd - Universal Studios-Orlando, FL. BOARD tape of a WAT show! See the CD section!!!! Perfect quality. (90 minutes) 11/13/98 Todd - Ballard Firehouse-Seatle, WA. Minidisc with mono mic from the audience. Excellent quality. (120 minutes) 11/28/98 Todd - IMAC Theater-Huntington, NY. DAT and $600 mic from the crowd. Great recording. Perfect quality. (90 minutes) ____________________________________________________________________________ VIDEO I like to keep video together for simplicity in dubbing. Videos begin with a "*". All videos are 2 hours recorded in SP with exceptions noted. Since most of what I have is now commercially available, GO BUY IT!!! Most of the compilation stuff's quality is quite good for the time period it was taped. Please keep in mind just how much VCR's sucked 15-20 years ago. Most video quality is not going too look that great on a 52" big screen. It's watchable on my 20" at best. Just a little warning. Most of it is worth its weight in untrackable, color bled gold. I no longer recommend EP mode as quality tends to suffer too much. If you want EP let me know, but I wouldn't recommend it if quality really matters. Most of my originals are not exactly perfect condition and EP may make it worse... All audio dubbed is in MONO!!! My playback machine is a HiFi JVC machine (thanks Scott Sheppard) and my record machine is a MONO Mitsubishi - both machines are 4 head. Mono audio kind of lends itself to these videos since most of it is in mono anyway. See the end of the list for trading/buying information for video. *11/29/73 Memphis State University and 4/28/74 Memphis Ellis Auditorium-10 minutes of Todd from 8mm videos digitally transferred to VHS. As such, most of my tapes feature quality recordings as opposed to rare ones. I'm not able to make video dubs with stereo sound, although all VCR stuff is of good/fair quality. I will either make equal cassette/video trades (you record something on an XLII 90/Silver for me, and I'll do the same for you) OR YOU CAN MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS! Please e-mail me so we can work out terms that are good for you! an874@cleveland.freenet.edu I now have a reliable method to dub CD's!!! Please e-mail me for details!!!!!!!!!!! an874@cleveland.freenet.edu I use book rate postage for sending tapes which I pay for postage. It takes a little longer, but it's about half the cost for book rate. Just make sure to mark the package as "MAGNETIC MEDIA - DO NOT SCAN". Sometimes the post office will scan the packages causing tapes to be erased! So be sure to mark the package and use book rate to save $, if you'd like. I DO send cases and computer printed J-cards with set lists, etc for most audio shows (and some videos). Please do the same in return if possible. The exception is for international orders! - I will send J-cards but NO cases (it just costs way too much for shipping.) Please make selections in multiples of 90 minutes for audio and 2 hours for video. It makes life much easier for me! Most selections are grouped together to form 90 minute/2 hour shows, so it shouldn't be too hard. If you see a shorter selection you like, see if you like the show it's with! ALL TIMES LISTED ARE APPROXIMATE AND USUALLY ROUNDED UP TO THE NEAREST 45 MINUTE INCREMENT (i.e. a 128 minute show is rounded up to 135 minutes). Most shows include some sort of filler to make up for the difference. If you send me a trade next day air hoping to get it back right away, let me know so we can make arrangements. Chances are there may be some other things ahead of what you may send. 2:1 Trades are fine too. You send 2 blank XLII 90's for each 90 minutes you want along with a SASE (or enough STAMPS to cover return postage!). I keep one and send the other back to you (min 2, max. 10 at a time). Think about this option!!! Under-trades are cool too! If you have one thing to trade and want 5 others that's O.K.. Just send your trade tapes, plus blanks, and stamps for the balance. Send e-mail and we can work out the details. That's fine by me... ALSO! Don't forget that HiFi VHS is an efficient, high quality way of getting a bunch of shows. 6 hours of CD quality audio at EP speed (that's about four 90 minute cassettes). Trades/sales will be handled case by case - but it's a damn good method! There are no limits to the number of tapes I will do over time! We can work out whatever you want to do! 10, 20, 30 - we can make an agreement to get you whatever you want... I offer these services to anyone who is just starting out or doesn't have much in the way of a trade. Also, sometimes people don't have the time or resources to get into trading outright and this allows them to get what they want. If you are completely broke and really want to get something - let me know. I'm sure we can work something out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ORDERING INFO, COMMENTARY, ETC. My goal over the years has been to find the highest quality recordings I can get. While I may not have the largest Todd tape collection, I've tried to find the best quality stuff from original recordings, transcripts, taper's audience originals, etc. Most of what I find is the one-tape-that-a-guy-made-himself-from-way- back-and-just-kind-of-held-onto. Scott Sheppard was kind enough at one point to donate his original master recordings from FM of a lot of stuff from the late '70's and early to mid '80's which was a great addition. Also of note was Mike Adrian's audience tapes from the early to mid '80's (the tcd3/Shure mic shows - regardless of the quality grade they are all very good recordings). Also, a note of thanks to Ken Owen, Rob Farrish, Paul Russo, Larry Natkin, and Mark Miller for committing most of my super high quality tapes to DAT/CD-R for preservation. Also, a special thanks to Roger Linder for hosting the page for all these years - what a fine individual. Not to mention the hundred's of other's who've offered whatever they had for us all to enjoy! Thank you all! So if you've got that one tape, let me know! The whole point to this hobby of mine is to spread along what exists and share it. I have always resented the point of view that certain rare recordings have a greater monetary value if they are let out to as few people as possible. What a bunch of crap. What good is a work of art if your aren't allowed in the museum. I also don't particularly appreciate people who will only trade (but DO understand this point of view, it's your stuff you can do with it whatever you want). How can others get started? What if there are people who want the shows but not the time/hassle of trading? Are those people out of luck? Not with me they're not! I'll share my finest/rarest shows with whoever wants them, period. There are some things on this list that some people would hold in a certain high regard, but you can have them if you want. I do not profit financially from my hobby. I'm a collector trying to spread a little of what I have and maybe get something in return. All I ask for in return is some e-mail letting me know what you think of your tapes. My goal is to plow all my efforts into buying blanks/paying postage, to turn other trades, to increase what I can offer, to catch the bird that swallowed the fly. I offer no apologies for this. If you don't like it, don't trade with me...I'll understand. Please include a written list of what you want and your mailing as well as e-mail address along with any orders or trades!!! PRINT A HANDY DANDY ORDER FORM!! ALSO NOTE: ALL TERMS ARE NEGOTIABLE!! LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO (TRADES, NEWBIE TERMS, ANYTHING!) AND WE CAN WORK IT OUT!! I really prefer to trade!!! If you have any sort of Todd/Utopia recording (or CD, LP, cassette, marble, twine, belly-button lint) - let me know. Your quality/content may be better than what I have (this does NOT include belly-button lint). I'd love to hear from you. It seems like I make a lot of tapes these days but don't get a whole lot of new stuff in return... Also, people who I've sent tapes to/traded with - trade with others! Who knows what all we can find together. I am looking for any great quality early 70's Todd and Utopia and Oblivion and POV era Utopia. Also looking to trade for a second dubbing deck, a PC with a CD-R (hey, why not ask?), and a second HiFi VCR. Tony Usberghi provided me with an unbelieveable pair of Stax headphones so I'm set. Thanks Tony! Scott Sheppard donated my first HiFi VCR. Let me know if you've got something out of use that you'd consider parting with for some audio/video. I DO NOT own any bootleg LP, CD's, etc. Anything I have in my collection is a copy made from the original, or a close facsimile. I figure if I'm going to trade "official bootlegs" I may as well bootleg them... Also, I do not own original albums of the rare stuff listed (Kas albums, Roger albums, rare tracks, etc.). I'm really not much of a vinyl or memoribilia collector. UPGRADE POLICY-I will re-record any tapes which I have made on which I have upgraded my master tape sound quality. All you have to do is send back the tape along with return postage - it's that easy... SATISFACTION GUARANTEED-If you don't like something I sent you (quality, content, etc.), let me know. I'll work it out with you. My number one concern is making sure you're satisfied with what you get... [Image] EQUIPMENT INFO-All of my tapes are recorded with Dolby HX Pro which is an encode only (you don't have to have it on your deck to benefit from it) headroom extension method. It basically can make a normal position cassette sound like a chrome one and so on. It's very good. All dubbing is done on a 1:1 basis-XLII's or equivalent for the audio and Maxell Silver or equivalent for the video. Please use Maxell tape when possible. The quality of Maxell is better than other tapes out there. My deck is a Yamaha KXW-492. My Denon DRW-660 died after 3 years of faithful service (it ran for 7 days a week much of its life). The Yamaha is a great deck, too. It's a dubbing deck so you get what I have. If the original has Dolby - you get Dolby/if the levels are low - they stay low. I try to indicate if the tape has some sort of NR. Most don't, some do - experiment for the best playback results. I do not equalize or process the sound either unless noted (especially on the CD's)... I have a 4 head MONO Mitsubishi and a HiFi 4 head JVC for video stuff. I use a simple Radio Shack zip cord patch direct from the JVC to the Mitsubishi for video dubbing. I play on the JVC (audio goes into a y-cord to make mono) and record on the Mits. No enhances or stabilizers on the video signal. Any VHS audio masters come right off of the JVC and goes through my Adcom GTP-450 to the cassette deck. Once again I use a decently shielded unbalanced zip cord from the JVC to the preamp then a nice older Signet interconnect goes to the deck. If I'm using my system to listen to something else at the time, I use a female to female adapter to connect the VCR to the Yamaha. I hope you can understand all I just said, if you can't, give me a yell. I hope to expand my collection, and yours. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
